Well almost here, in 20 days the public will be able to download and play with the beta version of the new Microsoft operating system named Windows 8. If you have a Windows phone, and I do, then you’ll be familiar with the looks of it, but using it on a desktop will be a whole different thing I would think. I grabbed the developer beta but never installed it, I was going to but just never did, I decided to wait for more of the bugs to be ironed out and that time has come I guess. I’ll be grabbing it on the 29th for sure, and I know many other people will be as well.

2K Games announced today that The Darkness™ II, the sequel to the hit 2007 title, The Darkness™, is now available in North America for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC*. The title will be available internationally on February 10, 2012. Inspired by the comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., and developed by Digital Extremes, The Darkness II continues the story of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and brutal force of chaos and destruction known as the Darkness. Introducing unique Quad-Wielding™ combat and four-person cooperative gameplay distinct from the first-person campaign, The Darkness II breaks the mold of traditional first-person shooter titles.
“The Darkness II combines a powerful driving narrative with imaginative violence, creating a unique gameplay experience,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We are able to stay true to the origins of The Darkness comics while introducing significant new features to the game, which is a great accomplishment for the franchise.”
The Darkness II introduces a new combat mechanic through Quad-Wielding, allowing players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with two Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with thematic elements of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and maintains the stylistic violence visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique, true to its comic book origins.
“Jackie Estacado’s saga returns in epic form with The Darkness II,” added Marc Silvestri, founder and CEO of Top Cow Productions and co-creator of The Darkness comics. “There’s a certain level of anxiousness when you see a favorite character move from ink on a page to pixels on a screen. 2K Games and Digital Extremes were able to do it in a way that stayed true to the Jackie from the comic books, while making a brutally awesome game at the same time.”
Also new in The Darkness II is the cooperative Vendettas campaign, a fast-paced, story-driven experience that takes place parallel to the single-player campaign. Vendettas lets up to four friends play together as one of four new playable characters – all with their own unique Darkness weapon – and begin their dangerous and bloody journey. Designed as a team-focused, mission-based experience, Vendettas explores the crucial role each character plays in Jackie Estacado’s campaign to defeat the Brotherhood.
A playable demo** of The Darkness II is broadly available worldwide for Xbox 360, PS3™ and Windows PC. The Darkness II is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

-Intel Corporation announced today its fastest, most robust client/consumer solid-state drive (SSD) to date, the Intel® Solid-State Drive 520 Series (Intel® SSD 520), a 6 gigabit-per-second (gbps) SATA III SSD produced using Intel compute-quality 25-nanometer (nm) NAND memory process technology. Aimed at delivering world-class performance for even the most demanding PC enthusiasts, gamers, professionals or small-medium businesses (SMBs), the Intel SSD 520 has fast throughput performance, new security features and unmatched reliability to meet even the most intensive user requirements.

Any consumer application requiring high throughput and bandwidth, low latencies and accelerated speed will benefit from the Intel SSD 520. Software developers, architects, accountants, engineers, musicians, media creators and artists are just some of the professionals that will find that the Intel SSD 520’s full package of features can make a dramatic impact on their productivity. With faster performance for graphic renderings, compiling, data transfers and system boot-ups, users can speed through multi-tasking or once-cumbersome application wait times with an Intel SSD 520 Series.

Unlike a traditional hard disk drive (HDD) with spinning disks and moveable parts, an SSD is based on silicon, NAND flash memory specifically, to create a lower power, more reliable and drastically faster storage solution that can keep up with today’s most demanding applications, Internet streaming and intense multi-tasking. Based on its own industry-leading 25nm Intel compute-quality NAND flash memory and a 6gbps SATA III interface, the Intel SSD 520 uses an LSI SandForce Flash Storage Processor with an Intel co-defined and validated firmware release, to create an SSD that sets new industry performance benchmarks. The Intel SSD 520 delivers up to 80,000 maximum 4K random write Input-Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) and up to 50,000 4K random read IOPS to speed through every day operations. High sequential read performance of up to 550 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and up to 520MB/s sequential writes also markedly accelerate and improve user productivity. This is backed by thousands of hours of Intel testing and validation, including more than 5,000 individual tests, as well as a 5-year limited warranty.

The Intel SSD 520 will mark the high end of its client SSD offerings and include these new features: a wide range of user capacities from 60GB to 480GB, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256 bit encryption capabilities and stronger password protection for added security in the event of theft or power loss. According to PCMark Vantage benchmarking, users of the Intel SSD 520 may see significant productivity gains through an up to 78 percent boost in overall PC responsiveness, and gamers will see an up to 88 percent jump in performance to enhance their gaming experience.** IT professionals will not only provide this additional performance and productivity to their customers/employees, but find that the Intel SSD 520 also delivers on reliability, improved security, smoother operations and lower total operational costs.

With a broad range of capacity choices, the Intel SSD 520 Series is priced as follows, based on 1,000-unit quantities: 60GB for $149, 120GB at $229, 180GB at $369, 240GB at $509 and 480GB at $999. It comes with a 5-year limited warranty.

The California based online retailer iBRIGHT LLC introduced an all-new range of iPhone docking stations called iBRIGHT myLAMP. Available in three different and attractive colors; pretty pink, classic white and gorgeous black, iBRIGHT myLAMP has a host of different features that make it immensely popular. Along with high quality built-in stereo speakers built-in at the base, iBRIGHT myLAMP has a number of other features such as a clock with alarm and sleep functions, a PLL FM radio, and a docking station. These iPhone docking stations can play music on an iPhone or iPod and also recharge them. The reading lamp uses an E26 /E27 lamp holder, so different bulbs can be replaced easily. The LCD screen of iBRIGHT myLAMP also comes with an adjustable backlight. The lamp head is made of plastic and there is a choice of the shade of fabric.

One of the most unique features of iBRIGHT myLAMP that sets it apart from similar products in the market is its PLL FM radio. The maximum output of this lightweight iPhone docking station that weighs just 3 pounds is 35W and its audio cable uses a 3.5mm plug while the AC cable that is 1.83m long has a 2pin polar plug. The line in jack can also be used to connect audio from other audio devices apart from an iphone or iPad. The power of the lamp is 50/60HZ and the power supply lies in the range of 110-220V/AC. The battery of this 8 * 8 * 16.5 inches bedside lamp lasts an entire year.

The CEO of iBright LLC says, “iBRIGHT myLAMP is an innovative and smart iPhone docking station. It is the only product in the market that offers so many functions, including some unique features like PLL FM radio.” Currently, iBRIGHT myLAMP is available at a price of $99.99 from iBRIGHT LLC and they are also offering a discount on it.

-When is a camera more than a photographer’s tool? The answer is when it’s an object designed by Marc Newson, one of the most acclaimed and influential contemporary designers.

PENTAX RICOH IMAGING AMERICAS CORPORATION introduces the Marc Newson designed PENTAX K-01* interchangeable lens camera (ILC). The new PENTAX K-01 is another bold effort from the manufacturer that is known for pushing camera size, color, durability, and now, design, to the limit. Widely known for designing a wide range of objects from furniture and household products to bicycles, cars, aircraft and yachts, Marc Newson has had collected works displayed in The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City and many other major museums.

*pronounced ‘kay- zero-one’

The contemporary, timeless K-01 houses a full array of advanced functions and user-friendly features in a camera body with remarkable form and function. The elimination of an optical viewfinder and quick-return mirror gave Newson more freedom in designing the camera body, and the K-01 showcases Newson originality in every detail. Available in black, white and Newson’s signature yellow colors, the K-01 features the designer’s autograph logo stamp on the bottom of each camera.

The famed designer’s touch also is evident in a new smc PENTAX-DA 40mm F2.8 XS interchangeable lens. As the world’s thinnest interchangeable lens,* the new 40mm combines with the PENTAX K-01 camera body to deliver a unique ILC system that is perfect for photographers who are as keen on design as they are on performance. Together, the K-01 and 40mm lens system mark the intersection where high technology and high design meet.

Key features of the PENTAX K-01 include:

Durable machined aluminum frame under a stylish black, white, or yellow exterior.

PENTAX mirrorless body design is compatible with 25+ million PENTAX K-mount lenses spanning decades.

Large 16 megapixel APS-C sized CMOS image sensor with low noise image capture and multiple aspect ratios.

Bright, high-resolution 3-inch LCD with 920,000 dots.

Full HD 1080p video capture at 30 FPS with h.264 compression (60 FPS at 720p) features outstanding video capture flexibility.

Sensor-shift PENTAX Shake and Dust Reduction system is compatible with every mounted PENTAX lens.

Fast 6 FPS burst mode is ideal for fast-action photography.

Flexible ISO range of 100-25600 ensures gorgeous noise-free imaging in any lighting condition.

Focus peaking mode provides fast and accurate manual focusing for critical focus applications.

Ok, I’m back.. it’s been a rough last few days. Yesterday my furnace died and it was 28F outside, I wasn’t very happy at all. I like Epson printers, they work very well. It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed any of their wide format printers though, the last one I got I actually donated to my kids school for them to use and they were very happy with it and put it to good use. The three new printers from Epson are from their WorkForce series and supposedly offer the fastest print speeds in their class.

The Go Payment credit card reader attached to most any phone and allows you to swipe and accept cards right through your phone. It attaches via the audio port and and you just swipe to get paid. It’s small and portable and there’s no fee for limited transactions, or small numbers of them. Now if you’re a big business then you’ll have to pay a small monthly fee. There is a fee however every time you swipe but just not a monthly one.

–Intuit Inc.’s newly designed GoPayment card reader is now available for free at GoPayment.com.

Designed for small businesses and anyone who sells products or services on the go, the new GoPayment card reader is a compact, cylinder-shaped device that fits into the audio jack of a mobile phone or tablet. It works with the GoPayment app to help users maximize sales by quickly and accurately swiping a credit or debit card instead of entering data manually.

The GoPayment card reader increases the accuracy of each card swipe and offers best-in-class, end-to-end encryption to protect a customer’s sensitive card data. Intuit redesigned the card reader based on customer feedback asking for a professional, easy-to-use way to process payments wherever they are.

“What I like about the new reader is pretty simple,” said Dennis McGrath, owner of BBQ2U Catering in San Diego. “It’s sleek and fits on my smartphone – even with the case on it. The groove is angled, so swiping the credit card feels more natural. The new design helps it fit snugly on my phone so it doesn’t swivel when I’m swiping a card.”

GoPayment helps users never miss a sale by easily processing payments on their smartphone or tablet. It’s ideal for mobile retailers or service providers, such as caterers, photographers, hair stylists, locksmiths and landscapers. It’s affordable with a free app and card reader with competitive, pay-as-you-go pricing. I’ve seen their aluminum billet cases and they’re gorgeous, so I’m sure the titanium ones will be as well, too bad most average consumers won’t be able to afford them…

MeeMojo.com, leading designer in aluminum iPhone and iPad2 cases, is now introducing a limited edition titanium iPad2 case. MeeMojo has had tremendous success creating aluminum cases for iPhones and iPads, but the introduction of the limited titanium case will even further their goal of designing a case that provides style and protection with attitude.

MeeMojo only plans on producing 250 titanium iPad2 cases, each one to have it’s own unique serial number. “Our aluminum cases have shown immense popularity,” said Tania Todorovic of MeeMojo, “but we wanted to add a unique case to give a more personalized feel.” To add to the personalization, customers will be able to add custom engravings to their titanium iPad2 case. The custom engraving will be personally added on the front face of each case with each customer’s choice of text.

MeeMojo will begin manufacturing on their titanium iPad2 cases once 50 cases have been pre-ordered. Seeing as only 250 are going to be produced, it is vital that customers get their names on the list quickly. A customer can be added to the list simply by filling out the contact form on the Contact tab at MeeMojo.com. After that a representative from MeeMojo will reach out to the customer to finalize their information and preferred customized text for their serial numbered case.
