The difference is too little to justify a switch from XP to 7. Too much hassle. I do not think that you will feel a difference when using the PC. What can make a difference you can feel is to switch off the swapfile:

(...)
When you set up a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, a page file is created that is one and a half times the amount of RAM that is installed in the computer provided there is sufficient free space on the system hard disk. However, as more RAM is added to a computer, the need for a page file decreases. If you have enough RAM installed in your computer, you may not require a page file at all, unless one is required by a specific application.

Xp is better
speeds greater
It can be easily customized, Win7 cant be if you dont run aero. My intel card does not support areo.
And for xp there are softwares which can give the aero look and whoa my graphics chip can handle it.
Still today many buisness firms use xp
If it was that slow why do they use it.

Would be interesting to see how XP32 XP64 Windows7 32 and Windows7 64 compare on a average not highend $1000+ machine. Maybe a simple Athlon 64 x2 5000+ with 2 to 3 gig and a 500gig drive and average video card. Who goes and spends thousands every year just to play games?

I have a Dell XPS that had Vista... BSOD>BSOD>BSOD Grrrrr.
So I install Lunix, to save my files... NICE, used but then slowed down on my usage..
So I then install Win7... WOOHOO nice!... noticed speed improvement, seemed more automated. i liked
I dual booted to Lunix for browsing, then dam crash.
So I decided to try a version of XP............................
WOOOHHOOOOooooooo. FASTER!
My webcam streams fatest, all software working, customizes easier, can be made to look identical to Win7,
haha, bla bla, yea i dont need nobody to tell me which just works, works better, easier, and is up to the task without the BS.
XP FTW
Oh and by the way, I tried dam Mac laptop for a day and was pulling my hairs out at how dam UN_user friendly it was for copy pasting,(dinosour button mashing C&V butons) no right-clicking, unmounting external drives, clutter F*k of bottom jumping icons...
Only good thing was battery and low heat. Lunix kicks it ass in User Interface :p
All this trama i had to go thru because of DAM M$ BSOD, BSOD I Hate u M$! & Luv your disowned XP!

Im sticking with xp, at least for a while more.
The devil you know...etc.

I have tried migrating to vista several times over the years, but always had to go back.
I just couldn't stand the ass-ugly, glacier slow, user hostile, pos, UI that they bolted to vista.
It really made feel like tearing my eyes out every time i used it.

From what i have seen the GUI on 7 looks pretty much the same, and when i read the list of "improvements" i cant find that a single one of the many things i hate most about windows have been fixed.

For one thing, i can hardly believe its 2010 and we still have to "install" programs by letting them puke files all over the OS so they cant easily be moved or removed.
Its like the whole thing is designed by monkeys.

If they cant even fix basic crap like that why bother "upgrading"?

Hi,

I was just about to comment here that your test is pretty much manipulated and tests taken care of so that Win7 "looks" nicer. In fact W7 owns Vista & Xp in just two tests (so that the difference is big enough to make difference) whereas XP does it on 3 tests. So I think that Xp "won" this unfair match.

Please when you try to manipulate your readers, try to do it more gently and don't let your attitude scream the result before you. Really, this is like saying that if we're combining X (89) and P (81) as ASCII together, it's bigger than number 7 so Windows 7 must be better.

I'm dissapointed. And I'm pretty sure that this comment will be modified or deleted totally. Thanks to admin ;)

I have used every Windows operating system since DOS 2.0, and I agree, XP is the most "stable" operating system created to date, but it just can't keep up with today's technological advances. With the new hardware being created monthly, from all of the various high end manufacturers, the demand for quality and performance is off the charts. People want realistic looking gaming graphics, processors so fast that, everything is instantaneous, and more, and they want it now. XP just can't do it. Windows 7 and Vista both are the future (for now) in so far as Windows is concerned, and now it's time for the manufacturing industries to put it to the test, and when they do, Windows will be right there like they were with XP for years patching it up and making it better, faster, more secure, and reliable. I currently am using a 3 year old laptop running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit, 4 Gig's Kingston DDR2 Ram (667MHz), and a NVIDIA Geforce Go 6150 128MB (shared). Compared to when I had XP (32 bit) on here, Win 7 takes the cake, without a slight bit of comparison. This machine screams compared to when I was running XP. Not once have I had a problem with this machine since installing Win 7 (Upgraded to Win 7 Pro 32 bit at first then switched to 64 bit a couple months later). Every aspect of this machine is better. It's like running a brand new computer compared to today's everyday use models (except for the graphics in so far as gaming). I hook this thing up to my TV and watch HD movies on my HDTV via a (RGB 15 pin) UXGA cable at 1920x1080, without a problem, no hesitation, skipping, no nothing. Only graphics problems I have is when trying to run a high end game like Modern Warfare, because my card doesn't have today's pixel shader technology that those games were created on. Other than that, from hard drive access, usage and transfers, RAM usage, cache and processor utilization, plus a lot more, XP can't touch Windows 7. In time Win 7 will dominate all testing benchmarks. People are too soon to judge Windows 7 because they got comfortable with what they had (XP in all flavors), because it was simple enough, and it worked. Now it's time to take it out of the spotlight and retire it just like they did with every version of Windows that precedes it. People are resistant to change, which is our nature, but given time, we will all change. Just think back to every time there was an new OS brought out, and the SAME EXACT thing is happening now all over again. I love Win 7 64 Bit, and I embrace the time when all the manufacturers, switch to it, because it IS the next step into the future, which will only bring about even greater things, when everyone learns to except it. I understand that there are dangers involved in that aspect as well but there can be no good without evil. XP is dying and Win 7 is the new baby. We need to help nourish it, and bring it along, just like we did with XP.

(I never really mention Vista because I too was resistant to change and I didn't like the UAC (disabled or not) and the new rearranging of everything, on top of the user interface that came with it, because I was so hooked on XP Pro and it's easy manipulation, including the ease of use of it's user interface, but over time I got used to the idea, so when Win 7 came out with Beta, I jumped all over it, and I'm glad I did.)

Other than that, from hard drive access, usage and transfers, RAM usage, cache and processor utilization, plus a lot more, XP can’t touch Windows 7. In time Win 7 will dominate all testing benchmarks. People are too soon to judge Windows 7 because they got comfortable with what they had (XP in all flavors), because it was simple enough, and it worked. Now it’s time to take it out of the spotlight and retire it just like they did with every version of Windows that precedes it.

(I never really mention Vista because I too was resistant to change and I didn’t like the UAC (disabled or not) and the new rearranging of everything, on top of the user interface that came with it, because I was so hooked on XP Pro and it’s easy manipulation, including the ease of use of it’s user interface, but over time I got used to the idea, so when Win 7 came out with Beta, I jumped all over it, and I’m glad I did.)
