I remember beating it several times. A few games that I felt deserved mention: Out of This World for Snes, which was basically one long chain of events that you had to memorize and execute perfectly or death awaited you at every turn; Ikari Warriors for Nes which was just endless mobs of enemies in a vertical scroller that you couldn't slow down and to top it off when you got to the last level and saved the girl it just kept going endlessly so you literally couldn't beat the game ever; Flashback for Genesis was almost the same as Out of This World, although much more coherent and playable, it still drove you insane and became dauntingly difficult in the later levels (but it's still one of the best games ever made); Baseball for Nes was infuriating the controls to throw to a specific base never seemed to work properly and getting a hit was almost impossible; Burgertime for Nes was much harder than on intelevision; and finally one that I loved as a kid but tried to replay recently and found it too difficult was Faxanadu. I disagree with several on the list like Punchout which if you knew the tricks was pretty simple. Metroid is not hard at all, and the inclusion of any Mega Man title after the original is wrong. The first was difficult but the later installments gave you so many gadgets and gizmos that they became too easy.
