Great post with some really good advice. I do see a couple of things that will change very soon.

SSDs, for example, are going to quickly become the standard. In a few years, the price will drop so much that HDDs will be as scarce as floppy disks.

Another issue with SSDs has been write speed. This really isn't an issue as write operations are mostly done in the background while you get one with whatever. As with all tchnologies, this is being constantly improved so, by the time SSDs are standard, no one will even remember it as a "problem".

Finally, defragmenting. With Macintosh computers defrag isn't recommended unless you are doing very heavy video editing. I do light video editing as a hobby. I have iDegrag on my iMac and it has never recommended defragmenting after analyzing the hard drive.

Also for Macs, controlling the start-up programs is much more simple. But not to worry, Windows will catch up with that in a few years, too. I have two Windows systems, a desktop and a tablet as well as the iMac and two Mac laptops. So comparison is an almost daily thing for me.

I usually use good freeware to do the uninstall (Revo Uninstall), cleaning (CCleaner), defragmentation (Auslogics Disk Defrag) to name a few. They usually do a better job than built-in Windows tool.
