The new Synology NAS Boxes have just been announced and I’ve got the DS211 here now and Tom has the DS211J for review I believe. Later today I’ll post my review and we’ll have the other form Tom hopefully soon after in the next few days.  This is actually two PRs in one as Synology announced four new NAS boxes

Today Synology America Corp. announced the release of its latest offerings for office and workgroup environments – the DS111 and the DS211. The new DiskStations are the latest in Synology’s solid business line, providing affordable and effective network attached storage (NAS) solutions.

The DS111 and DS211 offer excellent value for businesses, complete with Synology’s renowned and feature-rich DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.0. With competitive read/write speeds, the new models will keep up with business needs. Access control lists (ACLs) and easy ADS integration streamline access control administration, bringing enterprise-level features within reach of even small businesses.

"DSM 3.0 already offers a solid list of features businesses need and want," said Jason Bonoan, a marketing specialist at Synology America. "These two latest additions to the DiskStation family really offer a high-performing platform to run them on, and at an attractive price-point."

The new DiskStations provide a reliable solution for the standard NAS roles such as easy file sharing, scheduled backups, and remote access. Additional services can also be enabled, such as a built-in web server capable of hosting up to 30 sites at once, or an add-on email server. Remote access has been further enhanced with apps available for Android and iPhone smart phone platforms.

The intuitive interface of DSM 3.0 saves money by reducing the training time. Short cuts can be assigned for quick access to frequently used applications. With Synology’s green credentials and no requirement for client access licenses (CALs), businesses are poised to realize additional savings in energy and license costs.

The DS111 and DS211 will also run Surveillance Station 5, turning them into affordable NVR (network video recorder) solutions quickly. Surveillance Station 5 offers a unified interface for multiple cameras, and supports over 700 models of IP camera.

=====================

Synology America Corp. today announced the latest release in its economy series of DiskStations: the DS211j and the DS411j. With its low price point and energy requirements, these DiskStations are ideally situated for personal and SOHO use. With the use of scheduled power on/off, users can optimize their energy savings.

"This newest line has Synology showing its continued commitment to bring personal users the same powerful features demanded by business users," said Joshua Wise, senior product specialist at Synology America. "This is absolutely an economical way to combine backups and media sharing in one package."

Running the renowned DiskStation Manager (DSM 3.0), the new personal DiskStations offer the same business-class features and reliability of the professional models to home and SOHO users. Like all DiskStations, the new models offer the same intuitive interface for easy configuration and management, reliable scheduled backups with set-it-and-forget-it simplicity, and simple file sharing.

In addition to the expected NAS duties such as file sharing, RAID redundancy, and remote access, DSM 3.0 offers numerous multimedia services. Photo Station 4 allows users to quickly and easily share photos and videos across the Internet. The DLNA/UPnP compliant media server makes it a snap to stream photos, videos, and music to media players on their network, such as the Playstation 3® or Xbox®.

Additional value is found in Surveillance Station 5, allowing users to quickly turn their NAS into a network video recorder (NVR). With support for over 700 IP camera models, users can quickly create a surveillance system for home use, such as use as a nanny-cam or a video baby monitor.

To further enhance the remote features of the new DiskStations, Synology has released apps for Android and iPhone platforms:

  • DS photo+ lets users view and upload photos wherever they are
  • DS audio lets users access terabytes of music on the go
  • DS cam lets users view and control their surveillance network from anywhere
