This TV does exactly what it's supposed to, and it does it surprisingly well. I have the Sunday ticket, but I've been working Sunday nights, and directv's app won't allow NBC or ESPN football games. My Colts were playing on Sunday night, and I wanted to watch it. I scanned best buy for a portable tv and this bad boy popped up for $99! I bought it, and picked it up before work. Plugged it in at work, and had the channels scanned, and watched the end of the Jets dismantling of the Patriots. It was the HDTV digital broadcast.
Hi, i just bought this tv two days ago and it is great. i wanted to be able to watch my football games (local broadcasts) while on the patio and i was pleasantly surprised and pleased with picture and the sound. one thing i noticed is you can adjust your picture size to fill up the entire screen and that was nice for the game.

one question: can i recharge this little gem using a battery recharger and if so what voltage is needed (for example: 9 volt battery recharger). thanks

If you run a stereo off of the 8701's headphone jack, you'll find that the sound is surprisingly hi-fidelity when it is fed by a digital TV station/channel that offers same. That is how I have it set up...sitting in between computer banks, hooked up to pay cable, and then the headphone jack wired to a 5.1 stereo system (I'm not saying that it delivers 5.1; just that its stereo fidelity is...good!).

Be prepared to buy a new battery for the remote...as in, do it when you get it. I thought the TV/remote communications had broken, but on a hunch I replaced the you'd-think-brand-new-'cuz-theTV-was-brand-new remote battery...and fixed it.

(Proof that "The good die young!" does not apply to batteries.)

I just got this unit for a birthday gift. I did research on line and it appeared to be the best mini TV I could find. When we first moved into our current house we had to wait for cable hookup and I tried to use rabbit ears and could only get about a half dozen stations. With this unit I get 12 or more.

To answer some questions above:

It does have a digital tuner for today's signals.

The volume control is a dial on the left side. The remote does not have power or volume controls. Considering you have to be fairly close to even see the picture, the use of the remote is not that necessary for these functions.

As for Halo, my unit came with both a wall adapter and car adapter. Check your box again and notify the retailer where the unit was purchased if you do not have one. You are supposed to according to everything I read on line, and it was included with mine. Mine came from Best Buy, so perhaps they have some bundling set up with the manufacturer.

Al should go into the menu for the settings for the antenna and make sure it is set on air if using the antenna, or CATV if using your cable signal through a coaxial connection. Which leads me to Dave's question. Yes you can use an outside antenna coax cable and simply unplug the built-in antenna and plug in your antenna. Mine came with a 90 degree screw to slide on connector to use with the remote antenna.

I have not had a chance to run the battery down to find out how long it lasts but it seems like everything I have that runs DVDs or videos have about a 2 hour or less life before needing recharge. That includes normal laptop batteries, portable video players, and MP3 video players. I had a previous handheld TV unit that I used while working in my garage in the evening. This way I got things done, and didn't miss my favorite shows or sports. Once digital signals took over those days were gone, until now. So far this is a great little TV and only time will tell how great.

I live on a mountain off the city and we lost power during a windstorm this past week. I didn't have a portable tv at that time and went stir crazy. Anyways, I did some research on the Axion AXN-8701 and read it was a pretty decent portable tv. So today I went and bought one at Best Buy (the cigarette adapter in the package will not charge the tv) you have to buy a separate adapter. I also bought the Haier HLT-10 at Fred Meyer to compare because I wasn't sure either one would work. The Haier is a waste of money put together very cheaply. The antenna was flemsy and kept sliding downwards. I plan on returning it tommorrow. Barely got one station and it was blurry no matter where I put it in the home. So I wasn't expecting much better from the Axion but to my surprise I can get 7 stations and clear to boot. I did hook up the external antenna. Only thing I did not care for was on the remote it has no off or on button but its no big deal since the tv is only 7" and you just turn it off there. It was a little confusing auto scanning because after you initially do a scan if you read the manual it says do an auto scan add channel which I have not been able to find on the Menu where it actually says auto scan add channel so I did a complete scan again and it picked up more channels. I did not move the tv at all. So I am not sure what thats about. I paid 80.00 for this tv and 19.00 for the car charger. I say the tv is worth the money.

Hi, I have a question for you. I recently purchased this TV and can't seem to adjust the volume. It's very strange. I understand it could be a defect, but I doubt it. Did you have the same problem? Is it one standard audio level? (when I go to set-up then audio, it only allows me to switch between English and Spanish, so where can I go to adjust volume?)

Thanks!
