This must be a sponsored review – this tablet is seriously lacking in every respect – I received one as a gift and after a week of evaluating it, gave it to my 9yr old to use as a large screen for her Barbie setup. How can you recommend this!! I have also have both Ipads so it’s a matter of my being techno challenged. This thing is pure and simply, garbage.

If you want to have a reputation as a trusted site I suggest you keep it honest.

This product is pretty bad. Will not take a charge, period. Not from the USB, not from the AC adaptor. That makes it pretty hard to fully charge on the first use, ya think? Now, nobody’s perfect right? They should have a chance to make good. So try calling the toll free support line. Wait, the toll free line is disconnected! How about email support you ask? Well, I’ll let you know if I ever hear from them but don’t hold your breath.

its a bout time that Archos spent some of the money they make selling this junk they have the nerve to call an ARCHOS 7 MEDIA TABLET are they having a laugh youtube is one of the main MEDIA ATTRACTIONS on the web and it wont play any of the videos straight of that’s because it needs an Adobe flash player update well Archos you have the money go spend it on the update you could always recover it by charging for the codex now there is an original idea or has that been tried before and for those about to purchase the newish Archos 5 with Google Android it wont play youtube either better go bye something else with a descent apps background get my drift at least when you switch it on it stays on and wont shut down just as you are about to read the e-mails the best bit is the screen pity the rest is so useless should have kept my money and spent it on something more deserving of my hard earned cash like my car Archos do yourself a favour and drop the MEDIA PLAYER CONSEPT IT IS HOWEVER AN OVER PRICED PIECE OF RUBBISH THAT IS NOT FIT FOE PURPOSE

Thanks for the comments, I was nearly to bite the cheese and get trapped with it…

I’ve tested one of those at MediaMarkt, and it was big shit. Screen is resistive and takes a lot to response finger touchs. Battery… what to mention…. if not connected current electricity.. the machine was saying good bye!

Archos needs a lot of improvement and lower down prices… Put it side by side with ipad…

I am unable to connect my archos 7 tablet to internet as i don’t have the compatible programme downloaded the first time properly. please anyone guide as to where i can owload it again and the procedure to connect to internet tosearch the web.

I am realy disappointed @ the reveiw. I had made up my mind to purchase the modle 7 but after reading that reveiw I am more confused tan anythng else I might as well stay with my Blacberry.Things for convenience should not be complicated not everyone is a gaget genius.

I had read a few reviews on the Archos and it seemed to be everything that you’d want from a media player, which is why I purchased it. I travel quite a bit and wanted something to store movies and music on. Somewhere in the comments a couple of people mentioned about just using a laptop which has a larger screen and more features, while true the battery life would only last for one maybe two films. So the Archos is better here.

The wireless I had no problems with at all its picked up home and public networks just fine. Web browsing seems to work well and the screen is a decent enough size to make it quite useable. The email setup works well and was easy to configure, although I probably won’t use it often because my phone is setup for this already, but it is handy for viewing pdf/image attachments. The interface for managing email is clunky but does work.

The big disappointment is the poor support for video formats, given that this is a core function of a media player I find it totally outrageous you should have to pay to effectively install additional codecs.

There were a few people making the point that you should do your research before buying to find out what’s supported and what’s not. They were fairly critical of people without a good understanding of video formats, I think this is a little unfair, why should you be expected to know this? Great if you do, you’ll be able to convert your videos to the right format with some free tools to avoid purchasing add-ons, but for the average user that doesn’t want to waste time learning about video formats and converting there existing files to another format it’s a real let down. If it was made clear in the marketing that video support is very poor and you’ll need to waste hours converting files to actually use your device without having to pay for add-ons then fair enough, but its not.

Over all a great product that will be ideal for keeping you entertained while travelling or commuting that has been spoilt with rubbish support for video formats, if they just sorted that out and provided a large range of free codecs it would be just about perfect.

Owned my 7 for a few months. I owned a AV140 for 7 yrs before it stoped working.Sent it in to Archos for repair.To old to fix.My biggest beaf is Archos support.If you call can count on being on hold everytime for atleast 20-30 mins!!!! The Archos support on-line and with phone calls are totally worthless. Dont waste your time with those boo-zoos.I truely think there is only one worker working there.They suck

Krista couldn’t have said it better. The Archos 7 is a big ripoff and I can’t wait for a hack to be available. What is the sense of putting the internet on the Archos 7 if its not going to support Flash 9 videos like on You Tube which is also on the unit. It doesn’t make sense. Archos just lost another customer and I’m going to complain to the BBB and you should too.

im so confused when people mention small video players NOONE mentions the zune, always the ipon (zune HD is far superior)
anyway back to the archos
this is my take, you need some tech savvy about you, or its gonna cost you money for plugins, however if you are tech savvy, you wont need any as the reviewer earlier rightly said. There are many formats of video, NOT JUST THE ONES YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PLUGINS FOR, and MANY MANY types of software to convert. How many people use the itunes store or the zune store? not me thats for sure, yet I have 30gb of video on my zune
Before you review please be clear that you NEED to do some research on how to create encode etc a movie that will play WITHOUT a plugin and trust me………….its really really not hard!!
and the guy saying this is obselete becaudse of its size, thats talking a little strange you think thats like saying a 55 inch lcd or plasma tv is obselete because its too big. EVERY PROFESSIONAL reviewer rates this as fantastic because of the screen size
I got my archos 7 on ebay for $299
best $300 ive spent
