Put in 2GB of ram and replace the 4GB SSD with 32 or 64GB SATA II SSD and this thing rocks! Nice small size and with Windows 7 installed, it does just about everything I expect a desktop to do. I added a 7800 mAh battery and I can go unplugged for 5.5 hours. What more could I ask for?

OK, a couple of general answers to the questions listed above.

1) No, you cannot replace the HDD from your other machine into this Asus EeePC. This machine does not use a HDD, it uses an SSD (non-standard 2.5").

2) What kind of SSD? It uses a Mini PCI-E PATA Card. Newegg carries several that work/fit, just make sure that the 900A is specified in the specs.

3) Yes, you can replace Linux with Windows. Depending on the size of your new SSD, you should be able to install XP and/or Windows 7. You can still install XP or Win7 on the included 4GB, but you'll need to 'shrink' the installation. There are guides for that online as well.

Note1: Windows XP is NOT known as an SSD friendly OS, so there are some tweaks you must make immediately after installation to make sure you don't ruin your SSD. Search the Asus forums or your SSD manufacturer's forums for guidance.

Note2: Windows 7 is an SSD 'aware' OS, which means that there is less tweaking required. However, (this is also the case for XP), you'll need to get an external CD drive, or follow instruction on how to install from a USB drive.

Note3: I've read that if you have an activated copy of Windows 7 RC, you will qualify for the upgrade version when the final is released in late October. So, install Win7 RC now, so you don't miss out.

Lastly. with all of that said, I am running Windows 7 (x32) on my Asus EeePC 900A. I originally for my toddler to learn to use a computer. But I like it so much with Windows 7 on it, that I may delay his computer education for a while. :)

P.S. Did I mention that you should make sure to disable the Page file and System restore? Well, you should on an SSD.

I recently acquired an Eee PC 900A and am basically happy with what I have bought relative to the price I paid, $199. If the Asus Aspire One has a HDD that is 120GB then why can I not buy the HDD and replace the current one in the 900A? At the same time I would then change the OS to Windows XP or even Windows 7. Can the above be done? I also want to know if I can format the current drive and replace the OS with Windows as I do not particularly enjoy Linux. Thanks

What kind of SSD drive is in this machine?
I can't read the label markings in the Flash video. And Asus.com doesn't give any specs: No "seek" (if that's the right word for use with SSD...retrieval?) time, no manufacturer, not even the interface. Is it SATA? PATA? MiniPCI, even? Who knows.
These things might be important to know if I'd ever want to upgrade.
