Again, I am viewing your post late. I have found that any "points of interest" for me personally and not in the Garmin database, I "save" the first time that I drive, fly or walk by them. I do the standard, tap the screen vehicle location, add a name that helps me remember it, and save it in my Favorites. I have 100's of these personal saved locations in the 255W. Then, the next time I want to find them, I can locate the location in my Faovites, and or, just find it on the Map display. About your trail head problem, if you keyed in the trail location using LAT/LON coordinates, I suspect you made an error there. It is easy to do. Especially remembering to put in a "plus or minus" for the LON coordinate or using the wrong units scaling. I have never had the 255W screw-up on a destination described by coordinates.

I am late seeing your problem. The voice break-up is not a common problem. Return the unit to BestBuy for an exchange or call or email Garmin support and ask them for the steps to return the unit for warranty repair. My experience is that Garmin has always been good at customer support. Have you tried the unit in another vehicle...? Is it also noisy in that one...? You could have a vehicle with a high electrical noise generation problem that might couple into the 255. I have never seen that probelm, but, theoretically, it is possible and might cause the voice break-up. Personally, I would see if BestBuy will replace it with new, and if not, then get Garmin to repair or replace it....

Great review and I like my 255W. I have purchsed several for family & friends. At times I will also put the unit in my pocket, saving where I parked the car, and later be able to find the car in a huge parking lot.
My wish list is for the User saved waypoints (Favorites) font to be an optional color that the standard black map text notations. They would be easier to pick out when on a drive trip and not bypass your favorite 'gas station' or other locations the user has previously marked and saved. However, that is my only item on the "con" list.

this product is great when working. i have had two (the second one was a warranty replacement of the first after 8 months) the last of which just stopped working 6 months after receiving it. All in all i wouldn't go near it.

I've been using my Garmin 255W for about a week now. It's great for going from point A to point B, especially in the Greater Detroit area. However, I am a test driver where my company requires me to take round-a-bout ways going from point A to B via dozens of turns, back roads, expressways, city streets etc. I'm finding it extremely difficult to customise my routes with dozens of turns using waypoints. I don't like driving at night in Detroit traffic trying to read from a paper using the dome light while trying to hit every turn. Having my various routes programmed into my Garmin and announcing the turns to me would be a huge assist. Is the 255W capable of this?

There is still one unresolved issue. I'm British and would like to use a British voice but on TTS there's an annoying jar.

My Garmin Nuvi 255W does not pronounce the words left and right correctly. Right sounds like "roft" and left sounds like "loft". Very confusing. I downloaded the latest maps the but the problem is still there. Is there anything I can do about it?
