I’ve had this printer for about a year and a half. It worked fine: I usually only print word documents, so it got the job done. I couple months ago, when the cartridge ran out of ink, I got it replaced and it worked the same as it did before … until a few weeks ago. I turned on the printer and a message popped up telling me the cartridge was not compatible with the printer. It had worked fine the last time I printed, and the cartridge was still at least half full. A quick Google search told me that I wasn’t alone, nor was this model the only HP printer to have that issue (and HP didn’t offer much help – the only thing really on your side is the warranty).

My advice: Not only should you stay away from this printer, it may also be wise to steer clear of HP brand printers in general. It’s possible that the more expensive models are better, but I don’t have the patience or, quite frankly, the money to be doing testing that they should’ve done before putting these products on the market under a name whose reputation affects all of their other products.

Did you find a solution to the paper jams? I tried setting mine up today. i skipped the part where you have to print an alignment page, but that’s it. when I tried to print something, it kept saying there was a paper jam or a misfeed. Was that your problem?

total piece of crap!!!!! The biggest problems are with actual printing,paper jams and then you have software/driver problems.

If you are going to buy hp spend a lot more

I just bought this yesterday for $50 at Staples on clearance. It took me 20 minutes to set up and works fine so far. I’m replacing an old HP DeskJet 932C, so for me it’s a huge improvement in quality, form and function. I love it’s small footprint, perfect for my home office. I bought it mainly for scanning old photos and docs into my computer, items to sell on eBay, for copying documents, and for regular printing jobs. It gives you a choice of scanning formats such as .pdf, .jpg etc. I use email instead of faxing so that’s not an issue. I hardly ever print out photos so I will save a lot on ink since scanning costs nothing. Priceless remanufactured Inkjet Cartridges cost $14.97 for 200 yield Black and $17.97 for 165 yield Tri-color, same as the ones that come with the printer, so that will work for my needs. High yield remans are also available at $23.97 Black and $25.97 Tri-color. I agree that a USB cable should have been included but since I used the one from my DeskJet it wasn’t a problem for me.

very helpful review, learning about the photo quality in this review makes me think i probably wouldn’t buy this printer on my own but i got it free with my hp g61 laptop so i guess i can’t complaint much

As an owner of this printer since January/February, I would NOT recommend this printer to anyone. It goes through ink insanely fast, and it started experiencing paper feed problems after a few months (started back in May). I’d suggest going with something better.

This printer ($49) cost less than the replacement ink ($68) for my Canon mp150 which is on it’s last legs. So why not try a whole new printer, I do not print photographs so this should be just fine.

I’m “thinking” about getting this to replace my Hp 2110 which 7 years ago didn’t come with a cable. Evidently they never do. I remember buying my first computer and having to buy the cables so this has been going on a long time.

Just a heads up, I saw that Amazon has the replacement pack of black & color for this printer for around $32.

Good review….I am interested in buying this to replace my old HP deskjet 6940 which still works great. But, I need a copier/scanner and thought this F4480 might be a good fit.
I am trying to determine if I can use it with Windows 7.
Do you happen to know if that’s possible?
