Well 500gigs is more than large enough for my needs, I have no need to carry that much data around with me. The idea of an external hard drive is to take data with you, I don't think many others out there will be carrying more than 500gigs either. Even if you consider maybe movies on it, ripped they usually come out to about 1 gig each, that's 500 movies, who needs that many to take with them? That's SD of course.. you get the point though, 500gigs is still a lot of storage to carry in your pocket.. to each his own I guess, but I don't think many average consumers need that much space

and the link to the product page is in the specs section, the name is highlighted

Hey Roy,

Couple of things.... The largest maintream HDDs on the market are 2TB, but their 3.5" form factor. The largest mainstream 2.5" drive are 500gb, with some 640gb appearing.

The product is certified to work with drives up to 500gb, but i think you'll find it'll work with larger drives once their released. Its a bit hard to guaranty your product with work with something that hasn't been invented yet.

I have an old external enclosure that supports drives up to 250GB... Yet its very happily running a WD 2TB drive. I think you'll find most manufactures will only "support" drives they've been tested against. If they say "Will support drives up to 10TB" but a standard was to change (Eg physical size, interface or data standard), they would be liable to refund all customers as the product wont work as claimed.

I have one of these, and ive found it good. Although Esata might be faster, i find SATA3 better as its backwards compatible with more PCs/Laptops and requires me to only carry one cable. Not every machine will have Esata, and i dont want to be carrying/paying for a device that supports Esata AND USB.

Overall, considering the cost, very good value.

Cheers

I can tell you a "Con" on this...

* Supports HDD and SSD up to 500GB capacity

With HDDs at 2TB+ these days... only being able to put in a 500GB drive makes this a hard thing to want.

Otherwise it looks good.
