I havent actually bought this unit, I was an early purchases of the D-link version of it. I promptly returned the unit because of the lack of support for encoding on streaming.

So I would like to ask, if anyone has actually tested the Upnp feature of this NAS box?
the Dlink could stream video to my PS3 with no problem, but because of how the Xbox works, it needs to be streamed differently. which ironically is the same for the Patrriot Box Office.

so has anyone tried streaming? which client?

Well, I just finished buying this unit and setting it all up. At first when I stumbled on the comments above I got scared that I'd made a terrible decision, but I just went to the Patriot site and installed the latest firmware (beta 4) and see that NFS is now included and in fact I'm using it flawlessly as I type this to transfer 200 GB from a Linux Mint machine to the Valkyrie. I have two 1.5 TB drives in it and they are running as Raid 1. I can also access the Valkyrie NFS from my xbox media center, as well as my windows machines....don't think I can ask for much more. Can't comment on transfer speeds just yet, though I know I get about 2 MB/s when transferring from a USB drive connected to the Valkyrie itself to it's internal drives. As I don't know whether the external HD is USB1 or USB2 I think that's reasonable - I don't expect super speed anyway from a NAS! Alas, don't get totally scared off by the bad reviews, it works nicely so far for me anyway.....couldn't get all this functionality for the price in anything else here in Ottawa, Canada that I know of.

Cheers...

Unsure how much you got paid to say this is a good device but I highly doubt you even powered it on as you certainly would not have given it a good review if you did. The forums at Patriot are FULL of unhappy customers and Patriot refuses to fix the issues with this pile of junk.

As mentioned NFS was not supported when sold, the firmware update that installed NFS was only released recently. I am unsure how Patriot can sell a device with features on the side of the box that the unit doesnt even do until months after its been purchased by te public.

The stability of the device is shocking, the Upnp server is terrible with little if any support for movies. BT support runs...until you use it. Options on the whole in the device are NIL and dont get me started about the speed, I have an old 286 that could out perform this machine.

I suggest anyone avoid this machine even if you get it for free its just not worth it.

As for Patriot I suggest you avoid buying ANYTHING they make as the support is non existant.

Check out http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=20 if you want to read some real reviews on this product rather then reviews like this one that are false and I can only assume the reviewer is paid to say the device is great or doesnt even test the equipment. Either way he could not have recommened this device if he actually tested it.

n1581j I would love to know how you got NFS working considering that the binaries, config files and init scripts for NFS are not installed on the box. The only services running are a web server for the UI, FTP and samba (windows filesharing).
NFS and AFP are definitely not supported. Their customer support emailed me to let me know new firmware to 'add' NFS and AFP support was a couple of weeks away, however if you check their support forums they have been promising this for the last few months.
Until the promised firmware arrives and/or Patriot release the source code so the user community can add the features Patriot advertise on the box I would recommend that anyone who needs NFS or AFP support does not purchase the Valkyrie.

I got it to work no problems, would recommend this unit based on cost performance ratio to anyone including my worst enemy and best friend

I bought one of these and I am not impressed.
* contrary to what is says on the box NFS does not work
* SMB (windows filesharing) craps out after a couple of G worth of transfer, requiring you to remap the drive
* Transfer speed is horrible - typically 2.5MB/sec or less
If anyone is considering buying this heap of crap I strongly suggest you read the Patriot Memory support forums for this device to view some genuine customer feedback
