Keeping with its other x13 models, the sides have the Synology cut out name with a mesh underlying it to help provide additional airflow.

The back of the Synology DiskStation DS1513+ has plenty of inputs for USB based devices. Two USB 3.0 ports are found next two eSATA ports, while four additional USB 2.0 ones are seen just above the four LAN ports.

In the middle of this back section are two 80 x 80mm fans with a noise level of 22.1 dB (A). Of course there is an AC connector and a Kensington lock port on the back as well.

Four rubber feet on the bottom keep the Synology DS713+ from sliding around.

Here are some shots of the “guts” of the Synology DiskStation DS1513+. Here we see the five SATA connectors found within the NAS, a 200 Watt power supply on one side and the motherboard and additional memory slot found on the other.

The drive trays slide out easily and fit 3.5” hard drives using a screwless design as the side rails snap off and back on once the drives are inserted onto the tray. While using 2.5” sized hard drives and SSDs will require the use of the included screws to secure them into place.
