Tom,

I have a cabin in California that has Dish satellite. We seldom use it but it is a monthly expense. Have a cable service with 4mb upload speed connection in Florida. What I want to do is be able to purchase the slingbox pro-hd to attach in Florida and a sling catcher for California. Then I would hope to use the sling catcher in California to get the same channels I get in Florida and discontinue the Dish in California. Does this sound like it will work?

thanks,

JT, I dont have an hd pro...but I think you need a splitter before the cable box,so you can put one cable to the slingbox, and the other to the comcast box....that way remotely you can use the built in tuner......not sure if remotely theres a setting to make sure its using the built in tuner....and not just using the ir blaster to us the cable box, thus messing up home viewers......i might be getting one in the next few days,if you still need help on other aspects like the router or exact in/out connections for everthing, email me at mokokawi-at- yahoo dot com i could send you a pic of the wiring setup

I have a comcast cable/dvr box, a slingbox pro-hd, a wireless router, and cable modem all in the same location. For the love of god, can someone tell me how to hook up these devices - starting from the cable coax from the wall - such that I can watch and change different channels from the road (my iphone) independently of what they're watching at my home. I was told the device had this capability when I bought it. I have not seen One diagram for this on their website. Thanks!

I just bought the Slingbox Pro HD because I thought that I could watch an HD program on my PC (remotely) and it would not interfere with someone at home watching an HD program on a different station. From what I read, that isn't the case.

What is the solution for me to be able to watch something on my PC (remotely) and to not affect a home viewer?

As of February 2010 AT&T has allowed the SlingPlayer Mobile App for iPhone to stream over the 3G network!!!! And of course it still works over Wi-Fi.

The 3G network works great for streaming in the Los Angeles, California and Palm Beach, Florida area. Wile you can have the Audio OUT from iPhone using the Sling App running and use it to listen to the News (or whatever) in the car over your car stereo system, you can not use the Video OUT wile using the Sling App (this in my case would be to put the video on the Navagation screen in the car). The Video out from the iPhone must be set in each App to make it work (some Apps have it and some don't) and it just isn't set up in this App to work. (even with the correct cord). I have found 3G is faster than many hotel internet speeds so I tend to stay on 3G.

I also have Dish Network at home and I found it is easier to go to the Dish Network App (Free) and set the channel or recorded show up, then go back to the Sling App and watch the show. Or what I do when at a hotel is watch the Slingbox on the laptop computer and use the iPhone to control the Dish Box using that Dish Network App. (for what ever reason you do need that IR repeater to turn on your Dish box and then you can do everything in the Dish App)

Just a comment for potential pro-hd users. I have basic 5mps upload Verizon FiOS slinging from my house in florida to cablevision 10mps download in new york and I receive a great HD picture. Just a few side notes. The remote has a 1 second delay so be prepared for that. And I also have a sprint 3G mobile broadband card that I am able to get HD out of most of the time.

Hope that helps some potential users.

I've made an mistake in my previous comment, and I need to appologoze for that:

5V x4A x24H x31 days/month = 15 kWh/month
(not 150 kWh/month, as I said before)
That means 2,1 $/month and 25,2$/year.
That means ten time less power consumption, so it is really good.

I have a SlingBox Pro HD. Buyed from USA, located in Romania.
Cable provider is UPC: 12Mbps download , 2Mbps upload.

Now, it works just fine. But ...
Technical support is a real s..t ( they sayed "not available for Europe")...
strange fact, because Romania is in the setup list as an official option.
But when it was bought, no one tell about "no support for Europe"

I tried "Italy" in place of "Romania" and it works.

Software settings are extremly slow. If you have luck, it can take about 15 minutes for about 10 pages of simple settings.
No functional "advanced user" settings.
Fine tunning for channel frecvencies doesn't work at all, even appearing in the setup menu

And not a word about power (current) consumption.
But if you take a look on power adapter :
5V x 4A x 24H x 31days/month =150KWh/month
And 150KWh/month x 0.14 $/KWh = 21$/month

So, we can see it is a power consuming device.
Not too much, but in a year it means 252 $, almoust the price of the slingbox.

Hi,

How can the new model be called Slingbox PRO-HD (emphasis on PRO) when it still uses the clumsy infrared blaster to change the channels?! Even back with the Series 2, Tivo switched over to a 9-Pin Serial Control cable, which meant the channel was always changed correctly and accurately, no matter what was going on in the front of the Tivo (bright sunlight, bad aim on the blasters, etc.). Why hasn't Sling Media switched their boxes over accordingly? Especially since they call it PRO?

Would love to get your opinion on this. It's the one thing that's keeping me from buying a Slingbox. I had such a bad experience with the IR blaster on the Tivo before switching over to the Serial Control...

Thanks,

Thanks Tom,

I may not clear the question. Let try again:

As the TVvideo input is connected to the output side of the Slingbox, are there a way to change the video source for physical TV viewer (not SlingPlayer)? The SlingPlayer can select its source without issue, but the physical TV doesn't follows the changes that SlingPlayer made (I think this is reasonble, as you don't want to disturb the physical TV user). My question is how to change the video source for physical TV user?

Thanks,
