Gold has been a status symbol for quite a long time,  it signifies power, wealth, and style to most people and up until now most USB drives haven’t been any of those things. What do you get when you take a tiny Pico series USB drive from Super Talent and add 24 karat gold? You get something that’s not only stylish and useful but well made and a bit classy.

The Pico-C Gold 8gb USB drive not only looks great but it’s part of the popular Pico series of USB drives  from Super Talent making it durable and water resistant as well. Don’t let the classy look of this drive fool you though it’s capable of fast transfer rates clocking in at about 30MB/s, so it’s not only good looking but fairly fast as well.

The Super talent Pico-C Gold comes in an attractive gifting style box, inside we find a clear plastic box that holds the Pico-C, a gold chain and keychain lanyard.

Besides being gold there’s really not much to look at on the drive itself, we’ve got the USB contacts, Super Talent name and capacity, along with of course the gold chain. The Pico-C is small, a bit larger than a quarter in size.

Since I just reviewed the two Corsair Flash Voyager Mini USB Drives yesterday, I figured I’d put the Pico-C up against those and the others I’ve got on hand using SiSoft Sandra 2009 Removable Storage Benchmark

1

The Pico-C Gold USB Drive is very close in performance to the Corsair Flash Voyager 4gb and bests the 8gb version easily.

Next up is a closer look at the Removable Storage test, focusing on read and write speeds for a 256mb file.

2 Surprisingly the read performance of the Pico-C bests that of the OCZ Rally2 Turbo, which is the fastest USB drive I’ve got on hand at the moment, but we see the write performance is pretty slow overall.

Overall the Super Talent Pico-C Gold USB Drive is a great product, it just goes to show that you can have great looks and great performance in one package.
