@SlavaS
I'd definitely not recommend you that. I work on a mac platform with tons of raw images and thousands of heavy uncompressed music files. All of them between 25 and 50 MB. Since 6 months I've been testing and struggling withthe device and it caused me nothing but trouble, moved, deleted files/folders, slow response probably due to its caching and so on. It might have something to do with the fact that the DS has trouble with the protocol mac uses. It's as Pte says, as soon as it's a mounted drive, it becomes very slow. An example: just opening and listing a folder with 4200 subfolders in a window takes up to 4'30" !!!

I came accross this review when serching "NAS vs. files server". It's very well written, detailed and comprehensive.

Would you recomend this unit over a file server say built on a Linux PC with Samba?

Our studio works with tens of thousands of RAW images (8-12 MB) and large PSP files (10-60MB) stored on a server, currently Win2003 S. We are in process of replacing it and looking for alternatives.

Thanks again for the superb review.
