I have had my iPhone 3GS for about a month and the otterbox holster clip has worked wonderfully. It has been hit on numberless doorframes and stayed put. The phone is easy to remove as well (I keep it face in). Ou just put your palm on the top and push out while your fingers grip it. My only complaint is the lint attraction and bubbles under the screen

Simple cure discovered by my IT network son on the watermarks. Has worked on all 4 of our phones. Clear screen saver works fine (doesn't need to be anit-glare). Using Windex or something similar clean the inside of the Otter Box screen and let dry. Do this several times over a few day period and the water marks are gone, no more. Sounds crazy, but it works wonders. My phone was clear in 2 days. My son thinks there "may" me as film on the inside of the box screen. Now all 4 phones are perfect and not a mark one and have been for some time now. Do NOT use Windex on the phone itself. Just insure with a good micro-fiber cloth the phones screen (saver) is clean. Also make sure your whole phone is clean each time to reinsert it into the case. It's a proven deal. You may have to do it as few days to a week max and the water marks will be adios!

This is the highest quality and most protective phone case I have seen for the iPhone. It completely encases your phone, but has appropriate cutouts at every access point that can be covered when not in use. It does add some overall weight to your phone, but in my opinion it's well worth the protection that you get.

This is an excellent an thorough review. I would only add that if you want to dock your iPhone 3G to any type of dock/speaker/base (even Apple products) then a dock extender is a must have to eliminate the need to constantly take off the OtterBox to allow access to the 30 pin dock connector. I got mine at GadgetBoost.com/Extender and it moved me from a 'ok, this is sturdy but the trade offs don't make it worth the it" owner to a full fledge OtterBox Defender enthusiast. P.S. don't spend $30 on the sendstation only to modify it with a file. The GadgetBoost extender is less than $20 and a perfect fit.

I just recently got the otterbox for my iphone 4 and like many other don't like the holster for various reasons including as mentioned here (keeps getting knocked off). I went to my archive box of old gadgets and cases and located two leather cases that sort of work. The first was a horizontal case that I had been using for my Garmin iQue 3600 PDA from Krussell - a general purpose Pictor 94116. It fits nicely, has a hole in the bottom to push up the iPhone but is slightly to wide so the Otterbox will jiggle a bit if you don't pad the inside a bit yourself. This model is no longer sold but it was discontinued in 2010 so you may still be able to find one. Dont see it on ebay or amazon right now though Google finds it quite a lot.

I also had a Targus verticle leather case which was also used for the Garmin and has a velvet inside and a much snugger fit. The only id is a tag inside that says CH1046. It is vertical though and Targus hasn't been in the case market for sometime. Google came up empty.

Both have belt clips and not swivels which is an advantage to keeping it from being knocked off since it is snug. Only disadvantage are of course, with the added size of the otterbox and then put in the cases, you are wearing somehing quite large.

I'm going to try using the Krussell for a week or so and see how it works. I don't like the holster nor anything plastic to put the otterbox in. Will keep looking.

Good luck if you haven't found something already.

I dropped my iPhone in the creek yesterday , it sat submerged in water for at least 30 minutes . I pulled it out of the creek took it out of the otter box and turned it off . I then took it and put it in a box of rice for about 12 hours, turned it on and its working just like nothing ever happened . I am sure that the Otter Box saved my phone !!!

Now you need to post how to take it off. It is very difficult to remove. When Apple tech on the phone asked me to remove the Sim card, I had to tell him I had an Otterbox and he said, oh, those are hard to deal with, I'll wait. Seriously, I have a lot of trouble removing it.

Tired of your iphone falling out of it’s OtterBox Defender belt clip? I even lost my iphone completely, but once I attached the Lifeline not only have I not lost it, the phone hasen’t hit the ground! This thing is the greatest! The Lifeline gives you a gentle tug if you go to get out of the car and your iphone is in between the seat. All I have to do is pull on the Lifeline and out pops my phone. Alot of times I need my two hands and to be on the phone aswell, with this Lifeline I’m able to hang the iphone over my sholder and talk on speaker hands free. It also gives me a sence of security since if someone were to try to grab it and run it would pop out of their hand when the line ran out. If you like to keep the iphone on your lap this great invention keeps the iphone from falling on the floor of the car while you drive. I got mine on ebay for ten bucks! search iphone lifeline on ebay.

OtterBox defender clip .

If phone does not fit clip it is usually too big for the phone. Place adjustable wood clamp to compress the "ears" of the case together with a little pressure. Heat with hair dryer..tighten a little..heat more..tighten more..remove and try..you can move the clamp higher and lower to get the tightness you need. Leave clamp on clip until completely cool 30-40 minutes. You can do this until you get as tight as you need... Phone will clip in tight.

Anybody out there have a yellow hard case only, Defender Pro?

I, too, contacted Otterbox a couple of months ago regarding my Defender case because I felt that the holster wasn't holding my iPhone securely enough. They gladly sent me a new version of the holster and I'm very pleased with the new one. My main complaint now is the large amount of lint that collects on the rubber surfaces of the case. One of my co-workers has the same case and his collects almost no lint. We're not sure what the difference is. Anyone know of a cure for the lint buildup.

I had the same problem as everyone else with the holster being useless until I took a heat gun to one side and bent it it a little extra. Now it grips well and it only falls on the floor when one of my kids accidently kicks it while I'm carrying them.

The crappy holster remedy is simple. I run with my IPhone clipped to my clothes. After I select the music I want to listen to I put the Iphone in the holster and secure it with a fat rubber band. Works great for me.

I love the Otterbox Defender. However the hip holster clip is useless, it just doesn't work. The slightest bump will send it falling. But I found out that the Defender case fits perfectly in the Case-mate Blackberry Curve 8300 series. I found mine on ebay for $25. It appears that Case-mate has stopped making them so get one soon. The holster has a red background.
